If you’re after raw, rugged, and remote, the Laya Gasa Trek is where it’s at. It took us deep into Bhutan’s wild north, right along the border of Tibet. I loved the ever-changing landscapes — from dense forests and high alpine meadows to dramatic river valleys. The high passes were tough but worth it, especially for the panoramic views of Mount Jomolhari and Masang Gang. Wildlife lovers will appreciate that this region is a haven for species like blue sheep and takin — we spotted a few along the way! It’s not a trek for the faint-hearted, but it’s incredibly rewarding. This is the ultimate off-the-beaten-path trek in Bhutan.
