Attending the Punakha Festival was like walking into a chapter of Bhutan’s living history. The setting itself — the majestic Punakha Dzong nestled between two rivers — is straight out of a painting. I was particularly fascinated by the Punakha Drubchen, which features a dramatic reenactment of Bhutan’s defense against Tibetan invaders in the 17th century. Locals dress as warriors and monks, and the passion in the performance was incredible. It wasn't just entertainment — it was cultural storytelling and national pride rolled into one. This festival gave me a deeper understanding of Bhutanese resilience and heritage. An unmissable event for anyone intrigued by history and culture.
