I didn't plan on attending the Thimphu Tshechu, but my timing turned out to be perfect — and it became the highlight of my Bhutan trip. I arrived early and got a spot with a great view of the dances. The Cham dances were fascinating — symbolic, powerful, and unlike anything I’d seen before. Even as a non-Buddhist, I could feel the spiritual weight behind each performance. I loved how everyone was respectful, yet joyful. Locals shared snacks with me, explained the meanings of the dances, and made me feel like part of the crowd. This festival showed me a side of Bhutan that was both deeply traditional and incredibly warm.
